Children's services

Opus provides a comprehensive range of medication training options available for children's services in a form to suit your staff availability and budget.

Our pool of 25 qualified pharmacist / trainers means we can provide a tutor to lead a face-to-face medication training programme in-house or at any location convenient to your care setting. Our courses are fully interactive and feature opportunities for attendees to practise procedures and gain valuable hands-on experience.

For foundation and refresher half day courses: £45+VAT per delegate, minimum of 10 per session or special half day rate of £480+VAT for up to 16 delegates (equivalent to £30 per delegate)

For Administration of Buccal Midazolam courses, Adrenaline Auto-Injector Administration (Epipen®/Jext®/Emerade®) courses and Understanding Medicines in Diabetes courses: £350+VAT for up to 16 delegates for a 2 hour session

Buccal Midazolam Administration The course is a 2 hour session covering: What epilepsy and seizures are, What the symptoms are, How epilepsy is treated, When buccal midazolam should be used, How to administer buccal midazolam and Your responsibilities when administering buccal midazolam. Length: 2 Hours


Adrenaline Auto-Injector Administration (Epipen®/Jext®/Emerade®) The course is a 2 hour session covering: What anaphylaxis is and what causes it, What the symptoms are, What the emergency treatment for anaphylaxis is, How to use different types of injectors and Procedures needed in the care/school setting. Length: 2 Hours


Diabetes in Children This is an interactive workshop to understand diabetes symptoms and management. The course looks at managing hypo’s and hyper’s and understanding the medicines used in diabetes care. Length: 2 Hours


Children's Services Care and Control of Medicines This is an interactive awareness course covering all aspects of administration and handling of medicines in children’s services. It follows the Skills for Care knowledge sets for medication and is fully compliant with the requirements of Ofsted. Length: 3 Hours


Foster Carers and Shared Lives Safe Handling of Medicines An awareness course for those responsible for medication handling in foster care. NB This course is also available for shared lives. Length: 3 Hours


Opus ELearning is delivered online and enables individual staff members to study at their own pace. ELearning is a cost-effective alternative to tutor-based training – minimum attendee numbers don’t apply and there are no travel or accommodation costs to budget for.

Individual licences are valid for 1 year from date of activation (not from date of purchase).

An interactive course based on your previous experiences, the refresher takes you through a series of scenarios and real life situations to reinforce best practice and refresh your knowledge.

Foster Carers and Shared Lives Safe Handling of Medicines An awareness course for those responsible for medication handling in foster care and shared lives.

Children’s Services Safe Handling of Medicines An awareness course for all staff responsible for medication handling in children’s homes, residential special schools or any child-centred environment. In line with Ofsted requirements.
